Given the huge variety of solar panels and invertors now available, how does the PV system designer choose the best combination for the job? Engenius' designers solved this problem by devising SunSolve, an Excel-based spreadsheet to do all the calculations and suggest the best answer, while still allowing the designer to apply his preferences and clients' restrictions. SunSolve contains a maintainable database of solar panels and of invertors. In response to inputs of available area, it selects the panel offering best density, shows the best string arrangement and then checks which invertors are compatible, suggesting the smallest that will do the job. SunSolve handles non-rectangular areas and can allow for integrated, bolt-on and free-standing mounting on pitched or flat surfaces, making automatic allowance for shadowing at the location's latitude. It even calculates 2- and 3-phase AC connections, and warns if the array orientation is inadequate for good energy capture. Back to Engenius home page ... |

In the example above of the main output page, SunSolve has calculated the maximum fit in both portrait and landscape for each panel in the database, and automatically enters the optimum panel's identity (a Sanyo HIT in this case). The designer can review all panels in the database at a glance and select any other; in this example he has chosen Kyocera's KC130GHT-2, and to meet budget or power constraint has limited the array to 1 row of 16 panels. SunSolve then calculates the string arrangement, voltage and current parameters, and optimum invertor match (IG15).
