Tai Chi
Regretably the group had
to close when our instructor was no longer available.
However, we're all very keen to re-start - if you know anyone who would be
prepared to run the training, please let us know!

New Life Fitness Centre
This affordable and
friendly Gym is located within
Cowes Youth & Community Centre on Arctic Road, Cowes.
It started in September
2005 and is already so popular that we have recently
increased opening hours which now include late afternoon and Saturday
morning sessions.
Our fully-qualified instructors spend your first session devising the programme
that's
best for you, and give guidance and gentle encouragement from then on.
We are now qualified to accept GP referrals.
Most clients take a weekly slot, but we're flexible as long as you arrange in
advance.
Membership is £10 which includes your initial assessment session;
thereafter you're asked to pay for each session in advance at £4 per
hour.
There are concessionary rates for those on certain benefits including OAPs.
To book a session ring the Gym directly on 249129.

Northwood
House
The County
Registrar's Office now operates from a beautifully-refurbished suite
within Northwood House.
This is an opportunity for the House to regain its important role in the town
- could it become the Town Hall, Heritage Centre, Tourist Office, Learning
Centre, Community Hub ... ?
Cowes Community Partnership is now working with the Trustees of Northwood House
to bring more of
this lovely building and its stunning grounds into public access and enjoyment.
Do you have an idea for Northwood House? Let us know - 299593.

Healthy
Walks
Every Monday morning a
dozen or so folks take a leisurely and
often fascinating stroll within a few miles of Cowes centre.
Each group is led by a trained guide/first-aider (and we need more - any
volunteers?).

Heritage Exhibition - "Transport in Cowes"
The Partnership's very
active Heritage Group is about to stage another of its
popular exhibitions in the wonderful ambience of Northwood House.
The Heritage Group has produced a CD and Video
which include much of the
display content as well as interviews, reminiscences and even more
material.
At just £8 plus P&P it's a bargain! There also DVDs and Videos of
previous exhibitions.

Cowes
War Memorial Restoration
This poignant reminder of wartime stands in its
disassembled state in the parklands of Northwood House.
For years researchers have been trying to
complete the list of Fallen - we believe that is now achieved.
That list now needs to be engraved and mounted,
and the Memorial tidied-up and made more accessible
(especially for the elderly during wet winter months):
Cowes Community Partnership has taken on the job.
Your assistance will be much appreciated, whether in organising, fund-raising
or sitework.

Mornington
Woods
Part of the Island's ancient woodland cover, the woods stretch between
Baring Road and Prince's Esplanade and contain some unusual specimens
as well as being home to fauna such as red squirrels, bats, newts and
toads.
By the car park is a man-made pond which leaks irrepairably;
our project is to fill-in this pond, make a new wetland area and plant it
suitably,
remove deadwood and undergrowth from the woodlands, take out dangerous trees,
recover pathways and steps and install seating and information boards, as well
as to publicise
the unique features of this lovely Cowes resource.
It's a lot of work, some £20,000-worth of funding and great exercise!
Can we count you in?
